InterContinental Hotels Group, PLC might be gung-ho about rapid expansion in China, but the here and now shows that the world's largest hotel group's assets in the states are what continue to drive share-price performance.

In a recent release, InterContinental stated that it expects their holdings in China to overtake the U.S. as the dominating hotels market by the year 2025, all pending on strong economic growth, a swelling (Chinese) middle class and a boom in domestic tourism. Currently InterContinental is the largest foreign-hotel operator in China and is planning on doubling the number of rooms in the country to approx 97,000 within the next 5 years. But even if they are able to achieve this projected growth plan, the market will still only account for 11% of it's group-operating profit, according to Credit Suisse.
